Grand Designs Live 2018

This time last month I was preparing for what can only be described as my most challenging project this year.

I, along with 5 other designers, were selected to design a feature interior roomset at Grand Designs Live which was sponsored by AXA Insurance UK. The brief was “design by you”. Which meant I could design a space that showcased my personality and design style. Yaaaaaaaas!

I love history and visiting and grand old homes, so I had to incorporate some period detailing. I don’t adhere to a particular style or aesthetic and believe that a room should encompass all the things that you love. This is the moodboard that I submitted, which might not make sense to everyone but it encompasses everything that makes me tick. Architectural detailing, art deco lines and finishes, colour and texture. It is my perspective.

Once I received the floor plan I worked on the furniture layout but in truth I already knew what it was going to look like in my head, so I did a 3D model of the room using google sketch up. I knew I was going to be designing my dream home office and this is how it was going to look.

I spent the next six weeks sourcing and contacting potential product partners who would feature in my design. I had 2 days to decorate and create the room so I summoned my entire family to help out, I have a big family so thought it would be a breeze. I can honestly say it was the most physically exhausted I have ever been, second only to child birth. You can see more behind the scenes action on my Instagram highlights.

By time the show opened I thought I was going to collapse but being there everyday meeting so many lovely people via the interiors consultation clinic, I am am so pleased that I took on and aced this latest challenge in my design career. I met some fantastic designers, Sara, Katie, Zoe, Evangelia and the two Nicola’s, however my absolute highlight though was getting to meet Kevin McCloud who was so nice and friendly. I was totally star stuck as I have been watching Grand Designs FOREVER.

I would like to thank all my product partners who kindly sponsored me in my endeavour:

Flooring - Amtico

Curtains and Blind - Hillarys

Curtain Pole - Walcot House

Panelling - The English Panelling Company

Paint - Paint & Paper Library

Here is a video of the room in a little more detail cleverly shot and edited by my talented sister who also has her own activewear brand Two Three Active.

Enjoy xxx
